life STILL exhibition

When the programming team at Green Hill first mentioned Still Life as a theme, thoughts of bowls of fruit and bottles of wine followed, Caravaggio, Cezanne and Van Gogh sprang to mind. We wondered what contemporary artists had been creating as Covid struck and we all stilled in our lives. The theme took on a different urgency. Everything changed, yet for many of us the ‘stuff’ that surrounded us was still the same.

The eight artists here have their own unique take on the Still Life tradition, bringing it bang up to date. Some notice and re-frame familiar everyday objects, others familiar works of art. They draw our attention to those ‘things’ and animate them, perhaps reminding us of our sometimes complex, sometimes pragmatic relationship to such ‘stuff’ and that life STILL goes on.
