PARISH COUNCIL CASUAL VACANCY

We are authorised by Teignbridge District Council to co-opt a person to fill a casual vacancy.

The deadline to apply is 18th August 2017. 

If you would like to know more about being a Councillor, the level of commitment and Council activities please contact the Clerk, Julie, who will be happy to answer your questions.

Any person wishing to be considered to act as a Parish Councillor must be qualified to hold office. Sections 79-81 of the Local Government Act 1972 contain the relevant provisions regarding the qualification of candidates, as follows:

 

To qualify as a candidate and to continue to hold the office of Parish Councillor a person must be a British or Commonwealth citizen, citizen of the Republic of Ireland or a citizen of another Member State of the European Union and, on the relevant day, must have attained the age of eighteen years.

 

In addition, the candidate must qualify under at least one of the following conditions:–

 

on that day and thereafter s/he continues to be registered as a local government elector for the parish (meaning the whole area of the parish);
during the whole of the 12 months preceding s/he has occupied as owner or tenant land or other premises in the parish;
during the 12 months preceding their principal or only place of work has been in the parish; or
during the whole of the 12 months preceding s/he has been resident in the parish or within 4.8 kilometers of it (of its parish boundary).

15 hours per week (Mon-Fri, 3.30-6.30pm ) x 41 weeks per year (38 weeks term-time + 3 weeks deep clean during school holidays)

Role Responsibility:

To ensure all areas within the school are kept to the required levels of cleanliness; providing a clean and welcoming environment for our pupils, staff and visitors.

To ensure school’s policies and expectations regarding the safeguarding of children are met.    

Main Duties:
 - Vacuuming;
 - Dusting;
 - Mopping;
 - Cleaning of Toilets;
 - Emptying of Bins;
 - Buffing Floors (training will be provided);
 - Holiday period deep cleans (1 week Easter, 2 weeks Summer);
 - To identify and report building, furnishing or fittings deficiencies to the caretaker and/or administrator/ Headteacher.

Health and Safety:
 - Comply with the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Regulations;
 - Take reasonable care for the Health and Safety of yourself and others;
 - Co-operate with the school in ensuring that Health and Safety responsibilities are carried out;
 - To perform duties in line with health and safety and COSHH regulations and take action where hazards are identified, report serious hazards immediately to the Headteacher, Administrator or other nominated person.

Resources:
 - Cleaning equipment (e.g. buffing machine) and some chemicals will be used on a regular basis; 
 - Basic understanding of the operation of the school's alarm system will be required, training will be arranged as necessary.

Key Contacts and Relationships:
 - The postholder will often be required to work without direct supervision (i.e. during school holidays) and follow ‘lone working’ guidelines;
 - Daily contact with the Headteacher or other nominated staff and cleaners;
 - General contact with other school staff and suppliers.

The cleaner is expected to attend any training/meetings required in order to satisfactorily carry out any of the above requirements.

In addition to the cleaning tasks, some lifting is required. 
Routine cleaning may include the movement and handling of cleaning equipment, machinery and school furniture.
